Opening Event: 5.30-7pm Monday 1 December. All welcome.

“15 Minutes from Home” is a celebration of the power of local – of community and the creativity that’s right on our doorstep.

Inspired by the 15-minute city strategy – a concept where daily needs are within walking distance – the exhibition brings together 18 artists from Central, Richmond, Phillipstown, and Linwood, all living within a 15-minute walk of Eastside Gallery and Linwood Arts.

Featuring life-sized sculptures, paintings, drawings, photography, ceramics, graphic design and collage, it’s an exciting, wide-ranging showcase that reflects the richness of what’s being made just around the corner.

Artists include: Rebecca Stewart, Ri Williamson, Estefania Mondaca, Tamara Rookes, Sarah Brown, Nicholas Williamson, Diane El-Ammar, Roseanne Jones, Agrit, Akshita S, Bliss Ortilano-Salandanan, Christine Sewell, Grant Callaghan, Joel C, Katja Collins, Shar Devine, Shawn Ridley and Tom Goodenough.

Location: 388 Worcester St, free parking and entry.

Opening Hours: Tue-Thu: 11am-5pm | Fri-Sat: 10am-5pm

Portraits in Focus – Christchurch Portrait Painters’ Group: 3 – 29 November

posted in: Eastside Gallery, Past | 0

For over two decades, this dedicated group of artists has gathered weekly in Opawa to explore the art of portraiture. Working across pencil, pastel, oil, acrylic, and watercolour, members range from emerging talents to award-winning practitioners – each bringing their own style, experience, and curiosity.

The group thrives on shared insight and quiet exchange, learning through observation, conversation, and the rhythm of practice. Sitters, invited from all walks of life, often bring personal objects and stories, resulting in portraits that are as varied as they are intimate.

This exhibition showcases recent works by 11 artists that reflect the spontaneity, generosity, and interpretive richness of the group’s sessions. It’s a celebration of likeness, difference, and the enduring power of looking closely.

Location: 388 Worcester St, free parking and entry.
