Multicultural Art will have topics and tutors that change every month or two. Learn different art styles from around the world.
 
Enrol topic by topic (typically month by month).
 
Please note that we do not offer any classes that are suitable to bring children under 6 years old. Some classes are suitable for children aged 6-14 but they must be accompanied by a caregiver (except for the free kids classes). Please check the specific class you’re interested in before bringing children.
 

3-week courses cost $12 all up and 4-week courses cost $15 all up (not per class).

No experience is necessary and all materials are supplied.

  • 4-18 April: Harakeke Weaving: Learn how to weave traditional Maori stars, flowers and konae (baskets) – suitable for ages 10 and up (10-13 year olds must be accompanied by a caregiver)

Back by popular demand. Make traditional Ukrainian dolls. These are precious items that are passed down through generations and are believed to be Guardian Angels (or talismans, amulets) of the families. Its many modifications may be also used as children’s toys, gifts, or souvenirs to decorate the home. Ages 12 and up (12 & 13 year olds must be accompanied by a caregiver).

in a traditional Indian art style with Madhu Rees. $10 al up.

  • 2 – 23 November (4 week course): Japanese Floral Painting

Join Japanese kiwi visual artist Amy Couling in this special floral painting workshop. Paint your own Japanese floral painting using watercolour and gouache inspired by the work of traditional Japanese artists. Learn about the significance and symbolism of seasonal flora in Japanese art and culture. All skill levels welcome, let’s have fun painting together!

  • 27 July – 28 September (10 week course): Traditional Indian Madhubani Art. Not suitable for children under 14 years old.
This will be a 10-week course taught by Madhu Rees that you can enrol in for $35. All materials provided.
 

The Art of Madhubani (which translates to a Forest of Honey) comes from the Indian state of Bihar. This traditional art form is bright and colourful and has detailed patterning on the borders. The subjects are usually animals, nature, villages and depictions of Hindu gods and goddesses. The 10-week course will take you through the background and descriptions of the various types of this art form and students will be able to produce their own artwork to take home with them. All materials will be provided.
