Fridays 4-5pm – FREE to read or perform and FREE to listen

Poetry & Flash Fiction Fridays is on in Eastside Gallery every Friday afternoon. It’s a relaxed, open-mic session where you can come and share your thoughtfully prepared poetry or your short-short microfiction.

We have a lovely new sound system and we’d like to hear your beautiful words coming through it!

There are a few T&Cs (listed below) and you’ll need to book a 10-minute slot but otherwise it’s totally free and anyone is welcome.

Creative Writing is running red-hot at Linwood Arts these days so if you’re wanting to kick-start your own writing we have two very affordable options that you can jump into anytime: a weekly class taught by Frankie McMillan every Saturday afternoon from 12.30-2pm ($5 casual and $3.50 with a 10-class pass) and a Writers Group that meets on the first Sunday of every month from 10.30am-12.30pm (gold coin donation). You can just turn up to either, although booking is recommended for Frankie’s Saturday class as it’s limited by the size of the room. You can book the same way you book a slot for Poetry & Flash Fiction Fridays (details below).

We’ll also need an audience, so everyone out there, please come along and enjoy the brilliant local art on the walls while listening to brilliant local writers!

Book: email arts@tewhare.org, phone 981 2881 or visit us in person. We’ll soon have an online booking system available via our website: www.linwoodarts.org

Cost: Free to read or perform; free to listen.

The Rules for reading your poetry or flash fiction:

  1. 10-minutes max per person, unless there is time and slots available.
  2. Book a slot ahead of time or on the day by phoning 981 2881, emailing arts@tewhare.org or visiting the volunteer desk in Eastside Gallery.
  3. Thoughtfully prepared material only – no ranting.
  4. No swearing if kids are in the building. Otherwise, the use of swear words or adult content is fine in moderation if it’s important to the work. Staff reserve the right to ask you to stop if they feel the material is not suitable at any given time.
  5. Do not impede visitors to the gallery from viewing the artworks.
